Counseling and Contacts
There are many different offers and contact persons for various topics and problems that you might encounter at some point. We have collected a fe here. If you're not feeling well during your time at university, please don't feel afraid to find help!
- Campus Security - If you or someone else is in danger on the university campus or needs help, you can contact the Campus Security under 0228 73 7444. Every call and issue is treated discretely.
- Study Advisory - The central study advisory is a contact point at the university of Bonn for all questions regarding your studies. If you have questions specific to mathematics, Dr. Antje Kiesel can help you. She is the head of the study management of the Bachelor-Master Office.
- Studying as a Parent - In Bonn there are approximately 2000 students with children who try every day to fulfil their different roles. If you are also in this sitiuation, you can find information at the AStA and add the University.
- Studying as a Refugee - The University of Bonn offers different programs. You can find these offers here.
- Labor laws - The Department for University Policy of the AStA is a contact point for legal questions with regards to working at the university. If you have questions regarding your work as a tutor, student assistant or research assistant, then you can ask them there.
- General Legal Counseling - If you have general legal questions (e.g. about tenancy law), then contact the legal counseling of the AStA. They offer a first legal counseling session, i.e. an assessement of the legal situation and advice on how to proceed further.
- Studying Abroad - The University of Bonn offeres different ways to study abroad. General information can be found here. Specifically in mathematics, Dr. Thoralf Räsch is the coordinator for ERASMUS+ who can answer your questions. The relevant information can be found here.
- Practical Projects - The responsible person for the practical teaching course is Dr. Michael Welter. If you want to do an internship in industry, the relevant contact person is Carsten Rezny.
- Finding a Job after University - The career service can support you with individual counseling, workshops and a career day with general questions on the topics career prospects, application strategies and career planning.
- BAföG (financial assistance) - If you have questions regarding BAföG, you can contact Prof. Dr. Herbert Koch who is the relevant contact person in mathematics in Bonn.
- Student Assistance Fund - The student assistance fund is a loan fund of the student body of the University of Bonn. The approval of applications is decided by a committee of the student parliament. The loans are interest-free. Further information can be found here.
- Freitisch - "Freitisch" offers students, that are in financial trouble, the opportunity to eat for free in the cafeterias of the Studierendenwerk Bonn. You can benefit from this offer if you study at the University of Bonn and do not receive BAföG. More information can be found here.
- Semester ticket refund - A big part of the semester fee is the semester ticket. There is a list of reasons that allow you to get a semester ticket refund. More information can be found here.
