Dec 16, 2025 from 06:00 PM to 10:00 PM Mathematik-Zentrum

We cordially invite you all to this year's Christmas Party. It is organized together with the institutes, so professors, staff and students are all equally invited. Registration will open on December 2, at 6 p.m. It is on a first-come-first-served basis. Soup will be provided free of charge for all participants on the venue. The party will once again have a programme, and we need your help! We are looking for creative, talented, ambitious or funny people who enjoy showing off their skills to others (e.g. reciting poems, telling stories, performing pantomime or something musical). There will also be a piano, that can be used for program points! If you are interested, please contact us by 13 December, or earlier if possible, at weihnachtsfeier@fsmath-bonn.de or drop by the FS office. We hope to receive many programme contributions and see a large turnout at the Christmas party!

The next Tea Time with Women in Maths will take place on the 12th of January at 4:00 pm in the Hausdorffroom with the topic “Networking and Career Paths”. We have invited Vera Weber (Federal Office for Information Security (BSI)), Anne Weiss (QuantCo) and Marilou Boddé (Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB). They will tell us about the different paths they took after a degree in mathematics and about the ins and outs of the positions they have held. After a panel discussion you can ask you own questions over a cup of tea and cookies. The panel discussion will take place in English. As always all female, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender persons are invited. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you’re interested in meeting fellow women* in different parts of their university career and learning more about studying here in Bonn while sipping a cup of tea and enjoying some biscuits, the freshwomen tea time is the right occasion to do just that. The “Tea Time for Women in Mathematics” is a series of events organized by the gender equality committee of the Mathematics department of Bonn. Its goal is to give women* in mathematics the opportunity to network. There are events with presentations about a wide range of topics and discussions or ones where you can just chat in a relaxed atmosphere like this time. Like at any tea time all female, intersexual, non-binary, trans and agender persons are invited. The expression “women*” is also to be understood this way. We will of course believe any person that shows up that they are part of this group. Feel free to come for the whole duration of the event or just stop by for a quick cup of tea. Either way, we are excited to meet you! 🫖🍪

Nov 04, 2025 from 06:15 PM to 08:00 PM Endenicher Allee 60

A Group Talk on the topic of "Neurodivergence and Mental Health in Math - perks and challenges". The Mental Health Group Talks are small meetings for students who feel that their mental health is having a (negative) impact on their studies. The Group Talks give you the opportunity to talk to other students who are facing the same or similar issues as you . We try to create a safe space where you can share your experiences, support others, or just listen. That's why the discussion is moderated by a member of the student council. The rules are explained at the beginning of the Group Talk, so please try to be on time. Depending on how many people attend, there will either be only one English-speaking group or two groups, one of which will be German-speaking. Tea, cookies, and some activities will also be provided.

Dec 01, 2025 from 06:15 PM to 08:00 PM Endenicher Allee 60

Group talks are small gatherings of students to talk about their experiences with mental health and neurodivergence and how those affect their studies. This one will be about how to build and sustain a support system and is our first Group Talk plus. This means that it is aimed at those affected directly as well as their friends. You probably have helped out a friend before (or wanted to, but didn't know how) and also needed support yourself at some times (but maybe didn't know how to ask), so you can either bring someone or join on your own. Topics will include how to give and receive support, be kind to others and yourself and how to offer and accept help. As winter is approaching, there will be festive cookies and hot beverages and some activities in case you like something to do while you talk and listen to others. Try to be on time, so you can get settled in before everything is explained!
