Approximating π using toothpicks
March 14 is Pi Day, and to mark the occasion, Bonn is hosting its 13th Math Night. We want to approximate Pi at the HIM with the help of toothpicks by throwing them onto very wide-ruled paper and observing how often the toothpicks cross lines. If you want to learn why this works and contribute to making our approximation as accurate as possible, come by at 4:00 p.m.! It is also possible to join us spontaneously later on. If you would also like to attend the Math Night in the evening from 7:00 p.m., which is highly recommended (for example, you can win yellow HCM T-shirts in the pub quiz), please register in advance and as soon as possible via the website: https://www.mathematics.uni-bonn.de/de/outreach/oeffentliche-veranstaltungen/veranstaltungen/anmeldung-mathenacht-2026
