Boards and committees
The student representatives (FSV) also organize student participatation in a wide variety of committees. Since most committees only have a few seats for students, outsiders often don't know what is discussed and decided there. However, the decisions made there can affect the everyday life of all math students in Bonn:
Here we would like to briefly introduce you to the most important committees. As a general rule, all math students can become members of these committees. So if you are interested in having a say and contributing your own ideas, you are very welcome to join us! Just drop by the AWD or an FSR meeting (Wednesdays at 6 p.m.). Don't be shy; we welcome everyone who brings a breath of fresh air!

Function: The Equal Opportunity Working Group is not actually a committee, but rather a working group founded by the departmental group to improve equality among students and staff in mathematics in Bonn. It deals with issues such as gender equality, diversity, and accessibility. To this end, the working group has launched various mentoring programs for students and a series of events for FINTA mathematicians (Tea Time with Women* in Math). In addition, there are other irregular events and training courses, for example for tutors. The working group has also appointed ombudspersons who are confidential contact persons in cases of harassment or discrimination. More information is available on the working group's website, and questions can be directed to gleichstellung[at]hcm.uni-bonn.de.

Function: An appointment committee aims to select a new professor who will then be appointed to the University of Bonn. First, a position is advertised, then the best applicants are invited to give presentations and attend interviews, in which student members can also exert influence. A list of the best candidates is then drawn up, which must be presented to and confirmed by the departmental committee. The student members are involved in all stages of the selection process and pay particular attention to factors that will later affect students, such as teaching or subject orientation.
